Week 1 Meal Plan

I am delighted to present the Thrifty Food Plan, prepared by the Center for Nutrition Policy and Promotion with assistance from the Economic Research Service and the Food and Nutrition Service.

The Thrifty Food Plan serves as a national standard for a nutritious diet at a minimal cost.

These plans incorporates current nutritional standards, including the 1989 Recommended Dietary Allowances, the 1995 Dietary Guidelines for Americans, and Food Guide Pyramid serving recommendations. The plan is based on data from the 1989-91 Continuing Survey of Food Intakes by Individuals and national average food prices.
